Garrick Schimdt is the owner of Eagle Ridge Sled Dog Kennel and a passionate advocate for dog sledding, land-based education, cultural heritage, and outdoor living. At the heart of everything Garrick does is a simple belief: the dogs come first.

Deeply connected to his Metis roots. Garrick is committed to building a stronger love and appreciation for cultural heritage, the land, and the outdoor activities that have shaped his life. As a Metis leader and land - based educator, he creates opportunities for people to reconnect with the land, learn from it, and experience the confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging that come from being outdoors.

Active, proud, determined, and compassionate, Garrick brings those qualities to every challenge he takes on. His passion for long distance sled dog racing has pushed him to compete at some of the most demanding distances in the sport. He has completed 200 miles at the Canadian Challenge and 300 miles at the Beargrease, demonstrating not only physical endurance, but an unwavering commitment to his team and the dogs he works alongside.

In 2027, Garrick will take on another major challenge: 500 miles at the Yukon Quest. But his ambitions extend even further. His ultimate goal is to one day run the Iditarod.

For Garrick, sled dog racing is about more than miles, races, and finish lines. It is about partnership with his dogs, respect for the land, connection to culture, and passing knowledge and traditions forward. Through Eagle Ridge Sled Dog Kennel and his work as a land-based educator, he continues to inspire others to discover their own connections to the outdoors, their heritage, and the strength that comes from knowing where they come from.

At our core, we are dedicated to supporting both two-legged four-legged athletes on every adventure. As a proud Métis business owner, father and husband, I strive to foster a strong sense of community while helping everyone thrive on the trail.

At 17 years old, Monroe Mondor is proving that determination has no age limit. Already making her mark as a determined young Metis athlete, student, and aspiring dog sledder.

Monroe discovered her passion for dog sledding and took on her first race - an impressive 50 mile journey. With that experience behind her, she is setting her sights even higher and preparing to take on a 200 - mile race this season. Her dedication to the sport has grown alongside her kennel, and Monroe has purchased her very own sled and welcomed her own dogs, Minty and Earl, to the team.

Outside of the kennel, Monroe keeps busy playing football, working part time at the local veterinary clinic, and finishing high school. Balancing school, work, sports, and the commitment required to care for and train her dogs has strengthened her work ethic and determination.

For Monroe, dog sledding is more than a sport - it is a challenge that pushes her to grow, learn, and keep moving forward. She is excited for the 2027 race season and the opportunities that lie ahead.
